Today, I conducted some searches on YouTube to find out if and how local museums and related attractions are taking advantage of this web video sharing technology to promote their collections, exhibits, programs and facilities. Overall, they have a very limited presence on YouTube, with only a few exceptions. Most of the videos I found were created by local TV programs, tourism promoters, and travellers. I look forward to eventually discovering more museum-created videos on YouTube and other video sharing sites, as I think this would be a great way for these institutions to present themselves to the world.
Here are some of the YouTube videos currently available. Please note that most of the videos were not created by the museums and attractions they feature. In addition, some of the videos may highlight exhibits no longer on display or programs no longer offered.
