Here’s what’s on this weekend:
- The North Vancouver Museum & Archives will be holding its second Canned Light: Historic Bug Lamp Workshop on the night of Saturday, December 15th when the Carol Ship Parade begins. The workshop takes place outdoors at Panorama Park (Deep Cove), and will show kids how to make their very own old-fashioned flashlight with a tin can, wire and a candle. There will also be opportunities to learn why bug lights were so popular in North Vancouver and on the North Shore mountains. Please contact the museum directly if you require more information about the workshop.
- The Canyon Lights display at the Capilano Suspension Bridge begins Saturday, December 15th. The park will have over 200,000 lights that will be on from 5:00-9:00pm every evening (except Dec. 24, 25 and 31) until January 5, 2008. The Canyon Lights celebration offers visitors the opportunity to cross the suspension bridge to check out the Treetops Adventure at nighttime. The park invites all guests to “enjoy mulled apple cider and festive treats while carolers, dressed in historical winter costumes, stroll through the park.” Glass blower Malcolm Macfadyen will demonstrate how to blow glass icicle ornaments. For ticket pricing, please visit the park’s website.
- The Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre is sponsoring a Christmas Bird Count all day Sunday, December 16th. The bird count involves counting birds around your own home. Please call 604-981-3103 to obtain a bird count form from the centre.
- Head to the Vancouver Art Gallery on Sunday, December 16th between 12-5pm for the monthly SuperSunday: Art for Families. Children ages 12 and under receive complimentary admission to the Vancouver Art Gallery when accompanied by a paid adult. SuperSunday gives families the opportunity to “learn about art together” through various hands-on art-related activities.
- The Port Moody Station Museum will be holding another Holiday Tea on the Train on Sunday, December 16th from 1-4pm. Guests will sip their tea on the 1921 Venosta railcar while listening to Christmas carols and other holiday music. The final tea of the season will be held on Sunday, December 23rd.
