Here are a few things happening this weekend:
- Science World at Telus World of Science is hosting an adults only (19+) evening on Friday, September 21st. You are invited to “explore, create and discover like at kid” between 6:30-10pm. Don’t forget to bring your ID with you, as there will be a cash bar on site.
- Children will be welcomed back to Science World Telus of Science the following day. On Saturday, September 22nd and Sunday, September 23rd, members of the Kingsway Shito-ryu dojo will be performing traditional Shito-ryu karate demonstrations at 11:45am and 2:45pm both days.
- On Sunday, September 23rd you can celebrate the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, the second biggest holiday in the Chinese calendar, at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden between 10am-4:30pm. Admission to the garden will be by donation that day. Enjoy moon cake samples (a tasty treat!), craft activities, fortune-telling, introductions to the game Mahjong, cultural performances (including a Tai Chi demonstration), and art displays. Please visit the garden’s website for more information about the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and Sunday’s event schedule.
- The Vancouver Maritime Museum is holding an “Explore Sunday” on Sunday, September 23rd from 12-4pm, which gives museum visitors the opportunity to participate in guided tours of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Schooner, St. Roch. The museum notes that this tour will help visitors to “learn more about exploration of the Northwest Passage, the Inuit, and the RCMP’s role in Canada’s North.” The tour will allow visitors to access the main hold and engine room of the ship, which are normally closed off. Tours are complimentary with museum admission.
- Feel like doing something good for the environment? You can volunteer to help cleanup Lynn Canyon Park on Sunday, September 23rd from 1-3pm. This is the date of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. You get to participate in an “easy creekside walk” and then help tidy the park. If this is of interest, please contact Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre directly to pre-register. As you might expect, this event is free!
